ACT Today! Raises a Quarter of a Million Dollars at the 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism Fundraiser, November 3 in Malibu

ACT Today!’s (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism fundraiser raised over $260,000 on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California. Net proceeds from the star-studded event will help provide resources and grants to children with autism whose families cannot afford or access the necessary tools their children need to reach their highest potential, including grants for therapy, medical care, assistance dogs, assistive technology, basic safety equipment, tuition for special needs schools and social skills programs. More than 500 guests attended the fundraiser.


Actor Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds”), television executive Steve Mauldin (KCBS 2/KCAL 9) received the 2012 ACTivist awards and community activist Kathleen Sternbach received the 2012 Golden Cowgirl award for their tireless efforts raising autism awareness.



The evening began with star-studded red carpet arrivals which included actor Joe Mantegna ("Criminal Minds"), television executive Steve Mauldin (President/GM of KCBS 2/ KCAL 9), award-winning singer/songwriter Brian McKnight, actor Shemar Moore ("Criminal Minds”), actress Jean Smart ("Hope Springs"), actor Richard Gilliland  ("Torchwood"), actress Bonnie Hunt ("Cheaper By the Dozen", "Jerry Maguire"), actress AJ Cook ("Criminal Minds"), actor Mark Christopher Lawrence ("Chuck"), television executive Vin Di Bona (Vin Di Bona Productions), actor Erik Fellows ("Days of Our Lives"), actress Hunter King ("The Young and The Restless"), actor Don Diamont (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), actress Katherine Kelly Lang (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), actor Lou Diamond Phillips (“Longmire”), martial artist/actor Don “The Dragon” Wilson and actor Kyle Massey.


The reception was hosted by Maddy’s Market and sponsored by Natrol, Inc. Guests mingled and bid on 85 silent auction items before being seated for the dinner buffet program. ACT Today! grant recipient Dora Perez joined actor Mark Christopher Lawrence on stage and told the audience how her son Dustin was once nonverbal and low functioning and with the help of an ACT Today! grant for an iPad, Dustin has learned to speak and make friends. Dustin joined his mother on stage and said an emotional “Thank you, ACT Today!” using his iPad to help communicate the words. Guests bid on 17 live auction items including a lavish trip to Las Vegas with a stay at Caesars Palace, a 2-year prepaid Nissan LEAF 100% electric car provided by Universal City Nissan and a national champion reserve half Arabian horse provided by Hoffman International Properties. Musical entertainment was provided by tenor George Komsky who sang “Dare to Live,” twins 2-U-NEEK performed “Hero” and multiple award-winning singer Brian McKnight performed a mini-concert to the guests’ delight. At the end of the dinner program, guests were treated to a post party with BOSS in the USA; a Bruce Springsteen tribute band.

ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!), a national non-profit organization whose mission is to provide access to care and treatment to children with autism, is rolling out the red carpet for over 500 guests who plan to attend the 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism fundraiser, benefiting children with autism. The star-studded fundraiser will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California from 5 pm to 9 pm, followed by a post party from 9 pm to 11 pm. Over 500 guests are expected to attend the fundraiser.

Hollywood Celebrities to Attend ACT Today!’s 6th Annual Charity Golf Classic



ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!), a national non-profit organization whose mission is to provide care and treatment to children with autism, announces Hollywood celebrities will play in its 6th Annual Charity Golf Classic on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, California. Confirmed celebrities include actors DB Sweeney ("The Closer"), Jason Gedrick ("Dexter"), Kevin Sorbo ("Hercules"), Robert Constanzo ("Castle"), and Geoff Pierson ("Boardwalk Empire"). The tournament is presented by Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) and hosted by actor Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds”). The charity tournament will benefit military children with autism. 

“It’s amazing to have all these influential celebrities along with several members of the armed services who have children with autism join this year’s golf tournament,” says ACT Today!’s Executive Director Nancy Alspaugh-Jackson. “Proceeds from this event will make it possible for us to provide access to therapy, medical care, assistance dogs, special needs camp, entrance into special needs school, social skills programs, assistive technology, and even safety equipment to military children with autism.” 

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in every 88 children in America is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), making ASD more prevalent than juvenile diabetes, childhood cancer and pediatric AIDS combined. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal/nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. They include Autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, Childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD), Pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger’s syndrome.

7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism, November 3 in Malibu

The event is produced by D. Plump Consulting



“This annual fundraiser allows ACT Today! to provide DIRECT HELP to children with autism,” says ACT Today!’s Executive Director Nancy Alspaugh-Jackson. “Proceeds from this event will make it possible for us to provide grants for therapy, medical care, assistance dogs, social skills programs, assistive technology, and even safety equipment like helmets for the self-injurious children, as well as fencing for those who wander. Actor Joe Mantegna ("Criminal Minds" and "Godfather III") will be honored at the 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism event on Saturday, November 3, 2012. The star-studded event will be held at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, CA and hosted by Autism Care and Treatment Today! (ACT Today!).

(Autism Care and Treatment Today!), a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide resources, care and treatment to children with autism, announces its 2nd Annual ACT Today! for Military Families (ATMF) 5k/10k Run/Walk and ONEHOPE Family Festival raised over $105,000. The event, held on Saturday, April 7 at Mission Bay Park in San Diego, California was hosted by actor Mark Christopher Lawrence (“Chuck”), NBC San Diego Morning Anchors Jason Austell and Marianne Kushi, and ENERGY 103.7 announcer J.R. Proceeds from the Run/Walk will help provide resources and assistance to military children with autism whose families cannot afford the necessary care and treatment their children need to reach their full potential.

Approximately 1,100 individuals and families participated in the 5k,10k and Kids Fun Run. The top fundraising team was the Red Hot Dragons which was led by Karen Driscoll who was also the the top individual fundraiser. The San Diego community came out in support of military children with autism, including Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, Fitness Ambassador Kathy Kaehler, and the San Diego Padres Friar. The Run/Walk and ONEHOPE Family Festival featured live entertainment by 2-U-NEEK and Graceland Mafia, specialty vendors, children’s activities and an egg hunt contest for children and the young at heart.

Major League Baseball Players Help Raise Thousands for Children in Need

(Autism Care and Treatment Today!) and The Eddie Guardado Foundation (EGF), two national non-profit organizations based in Southern California, announce their STARS & STRIKES Celebrity Bowling Tournament, benefiting children with autism, raised $130,000. The event was held on January 29, 2012 at Bowlmor Lanes in Tustin, California. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to provide resources and grants to children with autism whose families cannot afford the necessary care and treatment their children need to reach their full potential.

Events such as the Eddie Guardado’s STARS & STRIKES bowling tournament allow ACT Today! to raise essential funds to provide grants for families in desperate need of care and treatment. In the past year, ACT Today! has distributed $434,000 in grants to families.
