Children's Hospital of Los Angeles Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism together with the Human Growth Foundation hosted its 2nd annual Walk for Kids Growth community event on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Griffith Park, in Los Angeles.
Walk for Kids Growth annual event increases awareness of childhood growth disorders, early diagnosis and treatment, and raises funds for research, education, patient support and advocacy.
The fun-filled Walk for Kids Growth was co-hosted by award-winning TV/film actor/comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence ("GLEE," "Chuck," “Heroes”) and KCAA Radio host Dr. Tony O'Donnell.
Live entertainment was provided by pop sensation Mandy Rain, all girl teen pop stars Urban Xtreme, and rising star Veronica Powers.
Walk for Kids Growth participants enjoyed a 3-mile, scenic fun walk, met characters from Star Wars, and get a chance to meet some of Hollywood’s brightest stars at the celebrity meet and greet arena. The fun-filled, community event also featured display booths, refreshments, and giveaways.

Dustin joined his mother on stage and said an emotional “Thank you, ACT Today!” using his iPad to help communicate the words. Guests bid on 17 live auction items including a lavish trip to Las Vegas with a stay at Caesars Palace, a 2-year prepaid Nissan LEAF 100% electric car provided by Universal City Nissan and a national champion reserve half Arabian horse provided by Hoffman International Properties. Musical entertainment was provided by tenor George Komsky who sang “Dare to Live,” twins 2-U-NEEK performed “Hero” and multiple award-winning singer Brian McKnight performed a mini-concert to the guests’ delight. Approximately 1,100 individuals and families participated in the 5k,10k and Kids Fun Run. The top fundraising team was the Red Hot Dragons which was led by Karen Driscoll who was also the the top individual fundraiser. The San Diego community came out in support of military children with autism, including Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, Fitness Ambassador Kathy Kaehler, and the San Diego Padres Friar. The Run/Walk and ONEHOPE Family Festival featured live entertainment by 2-U-NEEK and Graceland Mafia, specialty vendors, children’s activities and an egg hunt contest for children and the young at heart.

The program featured celebrity presenters, live auction and a paddle auction presented by Arizona Goldens, LLC in an effort to raise much needed funds to provide assistance dogs to children with autism. "We want to ensure that the moment guests arrive they will anticipate every minute thereafter, with an abundance of free flowing drinks including signature Diamond-tinis, a cocktail reception and private cocktail reception, live entertainment and dancing, and a seated dinner program with a special all-star tribute to TV personality Tom Bergeron ("Dancing with the Stars" and "America's Funniest Home Videos")."
The 6th Annual Denim & Diamonds will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the historic Ahmanson Ranch in Calabasas, California.
ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) announces the inaugural ACT Today! for Military Families (ATMF) 5k/10k Run and ONEHOPE Family Festival, held Saturday, April 2, 2011 on Fiesta Island in San Diego, a huge success. The ATMF 5k/10k Run raised over $85,000 with the highest fundraising team, CLB 5, raising $6,620. The event was supported by 60 teams, 1075 registered participants, countless volunteers and many generous sponsors which included: ONEHOPE Wine, Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc. (CARD), Ralphs, Butterfly Effects, Legoland California Resort, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, Wells Fargo, Allied American University, Granite Investment Group, zpizza, ABC News 10, and Sophie@103.7. In-kind donations were provided by Newport Rib Company, Stone Brewing Co, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Gatorade, and AJA Fine Jewelry.
“It was an inspiring day to see the San Diego community come together with military families in support of children with autism. Funds raised will help defray the out of pocket costs autism brings and help lighten the load our brave military families shoulder today,” says ATMF Campaign Director and Marine wife Karen Driscoll.
According to Department of Defense data, it is estimated that 1 in 88 military children have autism. Autism is a complex neurological disorder. Research shows, in the treatment of autism, early intervention and intensive behavioral therapy, including ABA therapy, are imperative to success.
“One percent of America may be fighting our wars, but 100% of America can help support their families here at home. We are truly inspired by San Diego’s support and the number of people who came out on Saturday and joined us in this very important mission,” says ACT Today!’s Executive Director Nancy Alspaugh-Jackson. “Their generous support of the cause and their commitment to military families is amazing.”
The ONEHOPE Family Festival followed the ATMF 5k/10k Run. Actor Mark Christopher Lawrence (“Terminator: 2”, “Pursuit of Happyness”, TV sitcom “Chuck”), Actor Jack Scalia, Actress KayCee Stroh (“High School Musical: 1, 2, 3”) and Radio Personality Jennifer White (Sophie FM 103.7) hosted the free event, with entertainment provided by Singer/Dancers 2-U-Neek, American Idol’s Luke Edgemon, Recording Artist artist Ricky J, Recording Artist Won-G, Singer/Actor Austin Anderson, Musician Sophie Rose, and Musicians Graceland Mafia.
