Walk for Kids Growth, LA Raises Over $45,000 to Help Kids With Growth Disorders

Children's Hospital of Los Angeles Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism together with the Human Growth Foundation hosted its 2nd annual Walk for Kids Growth community event on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Griffith Park, in Los Angeles

Walk for Kids Growth annual event increases awareness of childhood growth disorders, early diagnosis and treatment, and raises funds for research, education, patient support and advocacy. 

The fun-filled Walk for Kids Growth was co-hosted by award-winning TV/film actor/comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence ("GLEE," "Chuck," “Heroes”) and KCAA Radio host Dr. Tony O'Donnell. 

Live entertainment was provided by pop sensation Mandy Rain, all girl teen pop stars Urban Xtreme, and rising star Veronica Powers. 

Walk for Kids Growth participants enjoyed a 3-mile, scenic fun walk, met characters from Star Wars, and get a chance to meet some of Hollywood’s brightest stars at the celebrity meet and greet arena. The fun-filled, community event also featured display booths, refreshments, and giveaways.

9th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism Raises Over Quarter of Million for Kids With Autism

ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) presented its 9th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism gala, produced by D. Plump Consulting, on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, Calif. The star-studded charity gala raised a over quarter of a million dollars for direct help to children with autism whose families cannot afford the necessary tools their children need to reach their highest potential. This year’s event saw more than 500 guests for a night of giving, hosted by KTLA TV entertainment reporter Sam Rubin with celebrity presenters Magic Johnson, Julie Bowen, Charles Esten, Lennon and Maisy Stella, and Daniel and William Baldwin.


ACT Today!’s legendary fundraiser featured a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, live entertainment and dinner program with special tribute to the 2014 honorees: actress Holly Robinson Peete, former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, actor Nolan Gould ("Modern Family"), singer/songwriter Sophie Rose and philanthropist Virginia Viola. Among past ACTivist honorees are actor Joe Mantegna, TV executives Vin Di Bona and Steve Mauldin, and TV host Tom Bergeron. With special performances by ACT Today! grant recipients singer/songwriter Dominque Brown and singer Spencer Harte, dancing with the World of Ballroom Dancers and music provided by The Ventura Jazz Orchestra.

Proceeds from Denim & Diamonds for Autism will provide immediate care and treatment to children with autism, including behavioral therapy, medical treatment, assistive technology, assistance dogs, social skills programs, tuition for special needs schools and assistance to military families with children with autism.

ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) announces its highly anticipated 9thAnnual Denim & Diamonds for Autism, benefiting children with autism, will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village. More than 500 attendees are expected to attend the red carpet gala, including film, television and sports celebrities, the corporate community and other autism supporters.

The red carpet fundraiser, produced by D. Plump Consulting, will feature a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, dinner program with surprise celebrity presenters, live entertainment and tribute awards to the 2014 honorees: actress Holly Robinson Peete, former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, actor Nolan Gould (“Modern Family”), singer/songwriter Sophie Rose and Ventura County, Calif. philanthropist Virginia Viola.

ACT Today! Conference Aims to Help Hispanic Families 

Impacted by Autism

Los Angeles (May 16, 2014) - ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!), in collaboration with the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), announces the first Autismo y Familia conference will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 8 am to 1 pm at the Children’s Institute, Inc. in Los Angeles. The free conference will be conducted in Spanish and feature workshops for both parents and healthcare professionals. The conference will address diagnosis, intervention options and advocacy for families affected by autism.

ACT Today! is a national, non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and provide treatment services and support to families to help their children with autism achieve their full potential. These services include therapy, medical care, social skills programs, assistive technology and safety equipment.

“Autismo y Familia is the first conference of its kind here in Los Angeles,” says Nancy Alspaugh-Jackson, executive director of ACT Today!. “This conference is part of our ACT Today! Español program, which was established to address the language barriers which hinder Spanish-speaking individuals from accessing healthcare resources and treatment services that are critical to the health and future of their children.”

The conference will include opening remarks by Senator Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) and Carlos Manuel Sada, the Cónsul General of México in Los Angeles.

Presenters include ACT Today! Español spokesperson and broadcast journalist Gabriela Teissier (Univision) and autism advocate Francis speaking on “My Autism Journey.” CARD case manager Silvia Guzman will present “Basics of Autism: Definition, Signs, Diagnosis,” CARD supervisor Wendy Jacobo will present “Treatment: ABA Therapy,” special needs attorney Ines Kuperschmit will discuss “Navigating the System: Schools and Regional Center,” and Maria Almanza and Josefina Nieves of Fiesta Educativa will discuss “Parent Advocacy.”

Autismo y Familia was made possible by a grant from Autism Speaks, and in partnership with the Children’s Institute, Inc., Consulado General de Mexico en Los Angeles (SRE) and Fiesta Educativa.

Human Growth Foundation hosted its 1st Annual 4.8K Step Up and Walk community event on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Corona, NY. Approximately 300 people attended the walk. The event raised nearly $30,000 and helped raise much needed awareness of childhood growth disorders and funds to continue providing research, education, support and advocacy.

D. Plump Consulting to Produce Step Up and Walk New York Event

Human Growth Foundation, a national, non-profit organization whose mission is to help children and adults with disorders of growth and growth hormone announces D. Plump Consulting will produce The Foundation's first annual 4.8K Step Up and Walk. Step Up and Walk will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm at Flushing Meadows – Corona Park in Queens, New York. 

The event will feature dignitaries, celebrities, entertainment for all ages, community vendors, giveaways, and awards to Top Fundraising Walkers and Top Fundraising Teams. Individual and team registration is now open online at www.hgfound.org

ACT Today! Raises a Quarter of a Million Dollars at the 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism Fundraiser, November 3 in Malibu

ACT Today!’s (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism fundraiser raised over $260,000 on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California. Net proceeds from the star-studded event will help provide resources and grants to children with autism whose families cannot afford or access the necessary tools their children need to reach their highest potential, including grants for therapy, medical care, assistance dogs, assistive technology, basic safety equipment, tuition for special needs schools and social skills programs. More than 500 guests attended the fundraiser.


Actor Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds”), television executive Steve Mauldin (KCBS 2/KCAL 9) received the 2012 ACTivist awards and community activist Kathleen Sternbach received the 2012 Golden Cowgirl award for their tireless efforts raising autism awareness.



The evening began with star-studded red carpet arrivals which included actor Joe Mantegna ("Criminal Minds"), television executive Steve Mauldin (President/GM of KCBS 2/ KCAL 9), award-winning singer/songwriter Brian McKnight, actor Shemar Moore ("Criminal Minds”), actress Jean Smart ("Hope Springs"), actor Richard Gilliland  ("Torchwood"), actress Bonnie Hunt ("Cheaper By the Dozen", "Jerry Maguire"), actress AJ Cook ("Criminal Minds"), actor Mark Christopher Lawrence ("Chuck"), television executive Vin Di Bona (Vin Di Bona Productions), actor Erik Fellows ("Days of Our Lives"), actress Hunter King ("The Young and The Restless"), actor Don Diamont (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), actress Katherine Kelly Lang (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), actor Lou Diamond Phillips (“Longmire”), martial artist/actor Don “The Dragon” Wilson and actor Kyle Massey.


The reception was hosted by Maddy’s Market and sponsored by Natrol, Inc. Guests mingled and bid on 85 silent auction items before being seated for the dinner buffet program. ACT Today! grant recipient Dora Perez joined actor Mark Christopher Lawrence on stage and told the audience how her son Dustin was once nonverbal and low functioning and with the help of an ACT Today! grant for an iPad, Dustin has learned to speak and make friends. Dustin joined his mother on stage and said an emotional “Thank you, ACT Today!” using his iPad to help communicate the words. Guests bid on 17 live auction items including a lavish trip to Las Vegas with a stay at Caesars Palace, a 2-year prepaid Nissan LEAF 100% electric car provided by Universal City Nissan and a national champion reserve half Arabian horse provided by Hoffman International Properties. Musical entertainment was provided by tenor George Komsky who sang “Dare to Live,” twins 2-U-NEEK performed “Hero” and multiple award-winning singer Brian McKnight performed a mini-concert to the guests’ delight. At the end of the dinner program, guests were treated to a post party with BOSS in the USA; a Bruce Springsteen tribute band.

ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!), a national non-profit organization whose mission is to provide access to care and treatment to children with autism, is rolling out the red carpet for over 500 guests who plan to attend the 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism fundraiser, benefiting children with autism. The star-studded fundraiser will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California from 5 pm to 9 pm, followed by a post party from 9 pm to 11 pm. Over 500 guests are expected to attend the fundraiser.

ACT Today! Net proceeds will benefit military children with autism. The tournament was held on August 27, 2012 at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, California. Actor Joe Mantegna (*”Criminal Minds”) hosted the tournament.
